Noosa National Park

My second week of classes went pretty well, all of my tutes commenced this week. Some of my classes seem interesting, others harder than I expected for being such a low course number. Lots of essays and assignments will start to be due so I’m trying to get ahead of the game!

It was a gorgeous week, unusually hot and sunny, supposedly for this time of year. I didn’t mind though. Friday, it decided to rain… when it rains here, one day does not happen, it goes for many more. Our plans were to head up to Noosa and see the National Park and visit the gorgeous beaches. Jess, Nikki and I along with our new friend Amy whom we met at the zoo, and Aly whom we met Thursday, headed to Noosa. We decided to be troopers and head that way even though it was going to be a rainy one. We hopped on a bus to the Plaza at 8am and then another bus up to Noosa Heads. It was an hour long bus ride from the plaza and an unpleasant one at that. When we got there, we took another bus to the park. After some confusion and a pit stop at the mall for some lunch, we finally arrived.

It was sprinkling and we were hoping to see the park before a downpour.  Somehow, though we didn’t mind walking though a national park in the rain. It was kind of cool actually. Luckily, it cleared up for a half hour or so and the sun even tried to peak through for a bit. We took the coastal trail so we could walk along the edge and look down at the rocks and beach! It was so gorgeous. The ocean was blue and the beaches very sandy. It was pretty secluded because you have to walk through the park to get to the beaches. I was the adventurous one and was always the first to climb down some rocks or paths to see where it leads. Much of the beauty in Australia is hidden and I don’t want to miss out because I don’t feel like climbing down a few rocks! We made it down the hills and found the access to the beach. Amazing! There were a few people out in the ocean standing on their surf boards and paddling themselves around. Looked like a killer work out!

Luckily, the entire time at the beach was rainless! Then we started along the path again and it started to pour. We followed the trail a bit more then headed back to the info center to start on a more internal trail. We didn’t last too long on that one because it was pretty wet and some parts were not safely passable. So, we ended our trip there and headed back to the bus, soaking wet! After our 3 bus rides, we finally ended back at home, wet and freezing. We took a lazy night and watched the Skeleton Key (I hate scary movies!). It was fun to hang at Nikki’s with her room mates, the girls we spent the day with and a few others.

Saturday Jess, Nikki, Tahlia and I went to the Plaza to plan a trip (well not Talz cuz she’s from here and has been everywhere already). After an hour and a half, we were officially set to sail the Whitsundays in a few weeks! I never really thought about how far cities are apart here or that we’d have to fly everywhere…. But a 16 hour bus ride did not sound good and we didn’t want to waste our whole weekend on a bus for the same price as a flight, so flying it is! Can’t wait to go sailing!! We also had lunch at the Beach House bar and grill. It was tasty, but so weird how we order, then get a buzzer thing for when our food is up. No waitresses at all. Then we had to go to the bar, and order our drinks separate from the meal. Not convenient at all, but nothing here really is and nothing, and I mean nothing here is free. No one free refill at restaurants, no free ketchup (or should I say tomato sauce) or other condiments. So weird! But, we’re getting used to it. Makes you appreciate some things in America.

Today is still rainy, like the whole weekend has been, and even quite windy (close to ND wind! Which is crazy.) We are off to the library to get our reading and school work done for the week so we don’t have to worry about it over the weekend. We won’t be here, Jess, Nikki and I will be at Spot X on the Gold Coast, surfing the weekend away! Until Next time, stay warm!
